Mt Duneed Estate Shiraz
Region: 55% Upper Goulburn, 45% Yarra Valley
Winemaking: The grapes were destemmed and crushed upon arrival at the winery. Fermentation was carried out at temperatures between 24 and 27oC to retain the dark berry fruit character. Tannin and colour extraction were achieved using gentle pump overs.
Vintage 2020 was a challenging season in the Yarra and Yea Valleys. An almost perfect spring was followed by a hot and dry December which, surprisingly, turned in to a cool January with record rainfall. The two factors slowed down ripening allowing the Shiraz to fully ripen on the vine without any berry shrivel often associated with this variety. As a result, the wine is pure fresh fruit – fresh blackberry, mulberry and plum. The oak ageing has rounded out the tannins and left a hint of vanilla.
Occasion: The spicy wine is calling out for steak, seared on the BBQ with loads of freshly cracked black pepper. A simple rocket and parmesan salad, along with your besties and you have a match made in heaven.
