Mt Duneed Estate Single Vineyard Shiraz


Winemaking: The grapes were crushed and destemmed with 5% whole bunch added back to the ferment. The grapes were fermented in 5 tonne open pots and plunged twice daily. Following fermentation, the wine was aged for 18 months in French hogsheads (30% new).

Vintage 2017 will be long remembered as the most compact growing season in living memory. A warm spring was followed by a warmer than average summer but without too many extreme heat spikes during the ripening period. The effect of this weather forced an acceleration of ripening but also a retention of fresh acidity due to the cool nights. It’s not surprising then to see ripe, generous plum and mulberry characters in the wine. Expect the depth and concentration you get from Heathcote Shiraz.

Occasion: Middle of winter, when the days are short. Rug up, get the barbeque going and grill a steak then smother it in pepper sauce.
